I got the music in me...

I have been downloading lots of new music lately because I felt that I was in a music rut. I have been getting most of my songs from TV shows like Grey's Anatomy (whose new season premiered tonight-YAY!), Gossip Girl and Greek. It is amazing now how you can go to google and just type in "songs from gossip girl" and they pull up the entire list of songs from all the seasons! I've also noticed that on certain shows they will actually list the song title and artist that is playing at the bottom of the screen for the viewer's convenience. I think this is very smart of them because they are doing direct but subtle promotion and advertising for not only their shows but for the music industry. But one of my current favorite songs is called "Just Stand Up" and it includes about 15 different artists singing a song about standing up to cancer. It sends a great message, not to mention it has an incredibly fun beat to sing and dance along too. I love it, so I'm going to share it!

Multiple intelligences

In class today we discussed multiple intelligences and I discovered that I fall under the bodily/kinesthetic category, spatial/visual and the interpersonal intelligence category. I have danced my entire life so I would consider that as my kinesthetic intelligence. Dancing is one of the greatest expressions of yourself that you can show to anyone. It's a wonderful way to express yourself and how you are feeling without having to say a single word. I also am very visual in that I like seeing pictures of things rather than words. I can always remember where images are visually spaced on a page even if I don't remember the exact words on the page. I like when people describe things using images so I can understand exactly what they are talking about. I also would say I have an interpersonal intelligence because I am constantly wondering how others are feeling. Body language says a great deal about someone's well-being and I am usually pretty accurate at recognizing how people are feeling. I have always had high hopes that I might receive the logical/mathematical intelligence but unfortunately that has always been my downfall. As much as I would love to say I enjoy math and science, I have learned to face the fact that that is just not my forte. So yay for the other great attributes and intelligences that I do possess!

cab drivers

I had a really bad experience with a cab driver this weekend and since then it has just put me in a bad mood. I usually never have a problem with cabs minus the fact that they overcharge. I was heading home with a friend Friday night who lived only 2 streets down from me. I kindly asked the cab driver to bring my friend home first and then bring me home second. When we got to my friend's house he refused to take me home which was only 2 streets over. I was really upset because it was late at night and I didn't want to be walking by myself but he literally gave me no choice. I just thought that was wrong and maybe I'm overreacting but he handled the situation in a non-friendly manner. Why can't everyone just be nice? That's all I ask! But I will have to learn to love the cab drivers because driving in cabs is just a way of life in Dallas... it's how we always get around to unknown destinations. And I think they should change the color of the typical cab. Yellow is overrated.

I might have a new addiction...

I have always wanted to try to be a tea fanatic but for some reason the taste was always too bitter or just not fulfilling to me. BUT today my throat started hurting (I think everyone is sick right now) and I stopped by my friend's house and she decided she had the perfect remedy- green tea! This particular one was called Yogi Green Tea Kombucha. At first I was skeptical because I have tried it before and hated it but now I am pretty sure I am addicted. It was the perfect soothing treatment not to mention it has amazing health benefits! Every magazine/beauty book I have ever read always recommends to drink tea to clear your skin and cleanse your immune system. So now I think I will have to make a trip to central market and load up on yogi green tea. It also tastes amazing with a little honey mixed inside of it and gave me just the right amount of caffeine to make it through the rest of tonight!

Hurricanes Hurricanes, go away

It has been 3 days since Hurricane Gustav hit the Gulf Coast and still many people are severely effected. My family and friends all live in Baton Rouge and surprisingly Baton Rouge was the city that got hit the hardest. I talked to my mom yesterday and she said most people are still out of power and may not have it for a couple more weeks. We have a little power at my house thanks to our generator but we still have to be cautious as to how much power we are using. I saw a video of Baton Rouge on the news at nighttime and the city is completely pitch-black with a few splashes of light in random places. Apparently our neighborhood looks like a war zone with huge oak trees splattered across the roads. To maneuver around the city and get simple things like gas has been taking hours. MRE's are being brought into the city since no grocery stores are opening. It just sounds like one big mess! I feel like since New Orleans did not have as much damage as expected that everyone is forgetting about the other cities that actually received a great deal of damage. I know that LSU is still not opening so many of my friends are missing their first few weeks of college. Also all elementary and high schools are closed and may not be starting for another week. It really is unfortunate how much damage a little rain and wind can bring. And now we have to be on the look-out for a few more hurricanes that might be heading towards the Gulf Coast... it just never ends! Welcome to hurricane season.
